How to Choose your Bunk Bed Bedding Colors

Since we have so many fabrics and colors to choose from, it is easy to get overwhelmed !  Besides matching your decor, there are other things to think about when choosing your bunk bed bedding colors.

Order fabric samples!  It takes only about a week or so to get your swatches and to many people, it is worth the wait.  Swatches allow you to see and feel the fabric.  Physical samples also allow you to match existing decor.

When in doubt, go neutral!  Neutral painted walls, like beige, gray, or greige can really help for a worry free comforter color way.  With neutral walls, your bedding can be that pop of color that makes a room inviting!  On the other hand, if you have colorful walls, neutral colors can be the best choice.  Need a pop of color to add to your bedding?  Add some colorful throw pillows.  They are so easy to change out when you want a new look!

A real “biggie” regarding color choice is how you plan on laundering your bunk bed bedding.  How you plan to launder your hugger can help determine which colors you should pick. For the same reason you would avoid washing a red shirt in a load full of whites, you will want to avoid choosing white on one side and solid colors like solid red, navy and dark turquoise on the other, as these colors have a higher risk of bleeding. *With that said, if you choose a print that reverses to another print (the prints won’t bleed, only the darker or brighter SOLID fabrics can bleed if not washed properly) or you are planning to dry clean your comforter, you don’t have to worry about color choices.

My Suggestion: If you choose a light color as your main fabric, such as white with turquoise print or white with light pink print, I recommend using lighter colors, such as sage, tan, light blue, light pink, or even white for your reverse color.  If you choose a darker color for the front, such as a navy with white anchors, I recommend using a solid navy for the reverse. Again, if you choose a print for both sides of the comforter, you don’t need to worry about it.  Pick any colors you like.

Still Gotta Have that bright or dark solid reverse color?  Here’s a Tip: There is a product called a color blocker sheets, such as Shout Color Catchers or Carbona Color Grabbers and these “catch” the colors during the wash cycle.

When laundered carefully and correctly, your hugger comforter will hold up and stay nice for a long time!
